Dominic is a wheelchair user of over 25 years lived experience. With over 1.2 million wheelchair users in the UK, Dominic runs Review My Wheelchair – a unique resource that provides reviews that involve the user.

Amanda -- SafeSpaces

Amanda (SafeSpaces) - Safe living and sleeping environments for people with learning difficulties and behavioural issues.

Amanda's role as a Product Advisor brings her into daily contact with parents, carers, health and education professionals, who are seeking solutions for issues affecting adults & children with a wide range of needs. She will share this experience of other families in the form of case studies, showing how effective solutions can be identified. Amanda has a background in product development and training.

Safe living and sleeping environments for people with learning difficulties and behavioural issues

Amanda will explain how soft, customised, safe rooms and high sided beds can provide an appropriate environment for sensory integration, behaviour self management, or treatment.Amanda will show how people with challenging behaviour, sensory processing difficulties, or lack of awareness of risk can have their needs addressed by appropriate adaptations.

Working Together in Leeds to Provide the Best Occupational Therapy Service

Denise Sterling Occupational Therapy Manager

Denise is an Occupational Therapist with over 30 years’ experience working within the profession in a number of clinical and managerial roles. She is the Head of Occupational Therapy for Leeds Teaching Hospitals with key responsibilities for the strategic, professional and managerial leadership. Denise is a member of the Pan Leeds Occupational Therapy Project Board that is currently leading on the collaborative working across Occupational Therapy services in the NHS, Leeds City Council and the third sector, with the objective of a one workforce approach across all organisations to create the best Occupational Therapy service for patients and service users in Leeds. es will learn practical tips and tricks and a strategy tool kit to support individuals who have dementia and ways of managing distress.

Emma Wheadon Neighbourhood Occupational Therapy Lead, Leeds Community Healthcare Trust

Emma Wheadon – Occupational Therapy Lead within Leeds Community Healthcare. I graduated from Ripon and York St John 2000 and then completed my basic grade rotation at Dewsbury District Hospital . In 2002 I moved to Huddersfield and Calderdale Trust to complete a mixed physical and mental health rotation. On my last rotation within an outpatients rehabilitation I knew my passion was community based working and therefore joined Leeds Community Health Care in 2004. Initially I worked as a Band 7 clinician within Intermediate Care but have had different positions within this time including Clinical Lead, Neighbourhood Clinical Quality Lead and am now a Neighbourhood Occupational Therapy Lead. My Role enables me to support the team with complex cases and also develop the Occupational Therapy Service further within my own organisation and City wide. I am an active member of the PAN Occupational Therapy Project and support the Promoting and Networking work stream and co-lead the work stream on New Models of Occupational Therapy with Rob Brooks. Come and listen to the Occupational Therapy and Integration session where you will hear how we are working more cohesively in Leeds to provide greater quality care and patient experience.

Tina Heath, OT Clinical Service Manager Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust

Dr Rob Brooks Course Director Occupational Therapy, Leeds Beckett University.

Rob is the Course Director for Occupational Therapy at Leeds Beckett University. His teaching focuses on occupational science, occupational therapy models and complex interventions. His research interests are in neurodisability, and children and young people's mental health. Rob has a clinical background as an occupational therapist for children, young people and families. Rob's PhD explored how occupational therapists use occupation when working with children and young people with mental health difficulties. In 2017, Rob was awarded the Elizabeth Casson Post-doctoral Award and the Castang Foundation Award. He has recently published in the British Journal of Occupational Therapy and the British Journal of General Practice. Rob is a member of the Strategic Research Group of the British Academy of Childhood Disability and the Research Lead for the Royal College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Section for Children, Young People and Families.

An interactive talk describing my role as a driver assessor and the way we can enable clients with disabilities to continue to drive with or without vehicle adaptations.

Qualified Occupational Therapist of over 34 years, with experience of working in NHS, Social Care and Private and third sectors. 15 years’ experience of working at William Merritt Disabled Living Centre, Leeds as a driver assessor. Involved in medical fitness to drive assessments considering the impact of a medical condition on someone’s ability to learn, continue or return to driving of any age.

Graham -- Making it easier for disabled people to fly

Graham Race is a pioneer in the field of access to commercial flight for disabled people, having designed the award winning MERU TravelChair and setting up QEF’s ‘Tryb4uFly’. Tryb4uFly provides information, confidence and practical demonstration for disabled people who are considering flying. Graham is passionate about the role that aviation can play to inspire independence and achieve life goals.

The rationale of clinical decision making

Simon Love has been a manual handling consultant for the past 20 years. He has extensive experience in community, special schools, and case management clients. Simon has been chairman of the Yorkshire branch of the National Back exchange for the past 5 years and is currently serving on the National Executive Committee of the National Back Exchange as Membership Secretary. Simon is renowned for his interesting and entertaining speaking style and has presented at Conferences on a regular basis for the past 10 years.
